Dinner With TED – IN DUBAI

My love for food takes on many levels.

First and most obviously, the joy of tasting something beautiful is an experience that sometimes cannot be explained or matched.

But on a deeper level, to me, food represents a tool for connections. It is the equalizing factor that everyone can relate to and enjoy. Over a breakfast, lunch or dinner,  strangers become friends, friends become loved ones and loved ones become family.

One of the attributes I love most about Dubai is its fast-pasted city life style – I’m a city girl by nature.

Unfortunately with the fast pasted nature of Dubai, comes the challenge of making connections with like minded people. Meeting new people in an overcrowded pub or an ear-piercing club is next to impossible.

Therefore any event that fosters the idea of connections and indulges in food is by default close to my heart.

On June 20th, I attended Dinner With TED, at The MAKE Business Hub, which is part of a social dining movement currently taking over Dubai.

Dinner With TED is an event that combines TED Talks, good food and good company.

TED Talks are ‘talks’ focused around Technology, Entertainment and Design.  Speakers are given a limited amount of time to present their ideas and thoughts  in the most invigorating way possible. The backbone of TED Talks are ideas worth spreading. If you haven’t heard of TED Talks yet I suggest you stop what your doing and take a look at their website.

The Dinner With TED Experience

Welcome Drinks

Drinks on arrival, don’t mind if I do, and the initial chit chat with everyone around you.

Screening of the First TED Video

The first TED video is about a French artist, JR, who uses his camera to show the world its true face by pasting photos of the human face across massive canvases and encourages the use of art to turn the world inside out. Click here for the video.

Dinner is Served

After the first video, everyone grabs a seat on the communal tables and dinner is served – my favorite part of the night

Sitting next to a ‘stranger’, I discuss the video that we have just watch, I share a plate of burrata with him and find out we both enjoy photography – and there it is ladies a gentleman, the connection has been made and that stranger has just become a friend that shares the same hobby as I do.

Did I mention the food? Fresh full-bodied flavors as inspiring as the TED Talk videos themselves.

Screening of the Second TED Video + Dessert

The second TED video is of Malcolm Gladwell, a staff writer for The New Yorker and best-selling author of The Tipping Pointand Blink. In the talk he explains what every business can learn from spaghetti sauce. Click here for the video.

I would love to take a picture of the desserts but I’m too busy licking the chocolate off my my fingers. Chocolate fudge cakes are not to be missed at the MAKE Business Hub.

Dinner With TED is an event truly worth attending.

Is Dinner With TED exactly what you have been waiting for in Dubai?

Your in luck, the second installment is THIS Wednesday the 4th of July.
